About Michael Bennett Cohn

Michael is a senior technical writer at Amazon Web Services, where he has spent the last five years working on AI developer tools. He was the lead writer for Amazon Q Developer and Kiro, and the original documentation author for Amazon CodeWhisperer. Beyond documentation, he builds AI agents and tooling—including a style guide chatbot, a documentation automation pipeline, and an automated API documentation tool adopted as an official team offering.

Before AWS, Michael had a long career in writing, editing, and media. He was a journalist for Newsweek and The Forward, a branded content writer for Ericsson, and the founder and editor of a multimedia literary magazine. He spent five years at Condé Nast, where he led digital revenue operations and ad product development. He also taught English literature and composition internationally.

He holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Kansas and an MFA in Cinema-Television from the University of Southern California. He is an AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and holds additional certifications in cloud computing, networking, and language teaching (CELTA).

Michael was born in Japan and grew up in Kansas City. He has also lived in New York, Los Angeles, Holland, and Mexico. He currently lives in Seattle.
